Q. Tell us about Big Fun!

A. Big Fun is an award winning toy and gift store that specializes in the buying and selling of collectibles, Cleveland memorabilia, jokes, gags and more! We have all the toys from your childhood — Lego, Star Wars, Care Bears, Lite-Brite, GoldieBlox, etc.. Whether you were born in the 30’s or the 90’s (or even yesterday), you’ll find something at Big Fun that you didn’t know you couldn’t live without.

Q. Where did you work before Big Fun?

A. I went from Stock to Shlock! I was a stock broker at Paine Webber before opening Big Fun. I love to collect and make people happy. Big Fun allows me to do both.

Q. Why Coventry Village?

A. Best location in the city. I live and work in Coventry. 1/4 mile of the most diverse Mom and Pop stores in the area!

Q. Why is it important to shop small every day?

A. Shopping local supports those who support you. Independent businesses are the fabric of our neighborhoods. Dollars spent at local stores go right back in the community. We are your neighbors… We are your community… We are you!

Q. Today is Small Business Saturday. How is Big Fun involved?

A. We’re participating in Small Business Saturday (Saturday, November 29th.) American Express® Card Members can register to get up to $30 back when they shop at Big Fun and other participating local spots. There’s a list of Coventry Village merchants that are also participating here. Whether you’re a registered Amex card holder or using other forms of payment, get out and support small. Today and every day!

Q. You’re known for being a strong supporter of the community. Which local organizations and non-profits you’re currently involved with?

A. I am a community activist. My passion starts locally and grows from there. I am a founding and current member of Heights Arts. I am coming up on my 20th year as the Emcee of The Reaching Heights Spelling Bee. I am a mentor to many, as I was once mentored. Political and social causes are very important to me.

Q. Tell us about your personal Big Fun family!

A. I have a wonderful wife Debbie, who is a very creative and talented artist. Three great kids: Arleigh, Brynne (engaged to Nick) and Merrick. Tiger and Bootsy are our family pets.

Thanks to Steve for taking the time to share with us. Be sure to stop by Big Fun for a trip down memory lane and unique gifts for all the kids (and big kids!) on your list.

Don’t forget — Free parking all weekend at any public parking meter in the garage, streets and parking lots. Learn more here.

Check back here Monday or become a fan of our Facebook page. This holiday season, we’re introducing you to the independent business owners that help make Coventry Village a great place to live, work, shop, dine and play. Happy holidays from your friends in Coventry Village.
