Laurel Blossom & Kathleen Cerveny @ Mac’s Backs
Tuesday | 7:00 PM–8:00 PM
Laurel is the author of Longevity (Four Way 2015) and Degrees of Latitude (Four Way 2007). Her work has appeared in Poetry, Harper's, The Paris Reveiw, Pleiades and other journals. Her book and cultural commentary has been published in Poets & Writers, Small Press Review andAmerican Book Review. Longevity is aprofound book length poem about the lives and deaths of Laurel's mother, sister and best friend. Longevity's narrative arc possesses the range, density and richness of a novel, but Blossom's long poem is buoyed by an elegant lyricism that is wrenching in its musicality. "The poem's style and structure seem so inevitable, it would be easy to overlook the audacity of the book's project, which is nothing less than to salvage our dead. In this wise, generous, heartbreaking book, 'Everything is elegy.'" -- Gary Young Laurel is the Poet Laureate of Edgefield, South Carolina. One of her first projects was to create the "poem board" an installation containing a weekly poem that moves throughout Edgefield. She is on the board of the Musical Arts Association in Cleveland and Laura Riding Jackson Foundation in Vero Beach, Fla. Kathleen Cerveny is an artist and poet. She has served as Cleveland Heights Poet Laureate and is a former Haiku Death Match champion. Most recently she co-taught a writing workshop in Dingle, Ireland as part of the Stonecoast Creative Writing Program.
